THE HISTORY OF THE ALLIANCE

September 2008   Written by Eve Clements - (Minchinhampton Old)

There continued to be four divisions each with six teams. Clubs chose to continue with teams of nine players. The use of distance measuring devices in Alliance matches was discussed and it was agreed not to allow them until EWGA advice had been agreed. The reps enjoyed a day out to the Rolls of Monmouth. The Web Site was increasingly used thanks to Linda Caruthers keeping it up to date. Fixtures were added to the web site in 2008. Angela Canty took over from Judith Jones as Alliance Executive Chairman.

In 2007 there were four divisions each of six teams.

During the year a few administrative matters were addressed including confirming that medical certificates are not needed if a player requires a buggy for a medical reason but only the agreement of the two captains.

It was noted that demands were being made on some B team ladies who were frequently called into the A team.

It was confirmed that start times and tea and changing policy are at the discretion of the Home club.

The fixture setting arrangements at the AGM whereby the teams met around a table were deemed a success.

The list of nominated players must be displayed in the clubhouse.

Ali Buncher, League Manager and Gill Polley, Treasurer from Cotswold Edge completed their term of office and were suceeded by Sarah Richards and Colleen Seymour of Gloucester.  Judith Jones, Lilley Brook, continues as Chairman.

The website has continued to be successful.  This was quite a step forward for the Alliance, when this is read back in many years from now, with technology advancing as it is someone is going to wonder why we were so excited with this development today.

This concludes my three years in office as I hand over to Mrs Eve Clements of Minchinhampton Old Course.

In this year it was decided to develop a website to record and inform the membership of the progress and happenings within the Cotswold District Alliance simultaneously.  Mrs Linda Carruthers of Broadway Golf Club offered to design and install the website at a nominal cost.  The website was agreed by all member clubs and commissioned immediately.  We use this valuable website today with the following address www.cotswoldgolfalliance.co.uk.  The site was designed to be interactive so that individual member clubs could administer their own results, maintaining up to date information, as the results came in.  Other information on the site is Captains names, Representatives names, general information plus the history of the Alliance.

Two new teams were accepted into Division IV, Naunton Downs and Brickhampton Court 2nd Team.  The Divisions for 2005 will have 6-6-6-7 teams respectively.  The normal precedent would be to rearrange them to make Division I the biggest, but not this time as Lyndey who are in Division IV, will probably cease to exist within the next 12 months and will have to withdraw from the Alliance.  The Divisions will then become 6-6-6-6 without any further reorganisation.

Several Clubs are experiencing pressure on dates for matches.  Maybe too many matches are being played on Mondays and Clubs were asked to be more flexible and be willing to play on other days.

No major problems have arisen during this season’s fixtures and so no further alterations to the Constitution were deemed necessary.

Mrs Jenny Clink of Lilley Brook donated an antique silver rose-bowl as the trophy for Division IV, to be presented for the first time at the AGM in October 2003.

Minchinhampton will be entering a 3rd Team into Div IV, as from the 2004 season.

The divisional structure will change from 6-6-5-5 to 6-6-6-5.

The new ‘Constitution and Appendix’ (in use since March 2003), to be altered accordingly and other agreed amendments inserted.
